What is AMIE?
AMIE stands for Associate Member of Institution of Engineers.
To put in simple words, it is a degree level examination in engineering, recognized by all State Governments, Central Govt., AICTE, UPSC etc as equivalent to B.E/B.Tech. That means, those who pass AMIE examination will get equal opportunities for job as well as higher education in both Govt. and private sectors, just like a B.E or B.Tech holder. The Institution of Engineers (India), the largest multidisciplinary body of engineers in the country is the authority that prepares syllabus, conducts examination and issue certificates etc. of AMIE.

Who Can Study AMIE ?
Those who wish to do AMIE must have any one of the following qualifications.
1. A recognized 3-year Polytechnic Diploma or its equivalent in any branch of engineering.(No marks restriction)
2. +2/HSC/Inter with Physics, Chemistry& Mathematics with minimum 45% marks. If you possess any qualification higher than or equivalent to the above, still then you are eligible to apply for AMIE.
3. Those who pursue AMIE after their Diploma course are usually known as Diploma Stream Students, and others are known as Non-Diploma Stream Students. So, AMIE is the only recognized engineering course that can be studied without entrance-exam, mark restrictions and even in the distance education mode.
The Institution of Engineers (India) Kolkata, is the largest professional body of engineers in
India. The IEI started non-formal engineering education programme in 1928. It is authority that
prepares syllabus, conducts examination and issue certificates etc. of AMIE.

The services and benefits of IEI is offered only to its members. Hence in order to appear for
AMIE examination, one has to become a member of IEI. This membership is called ST/T
membership. Anyone who got membership becomes eligible for appearing AMIE examination. The
membership/admission/Enrollment is given to ALL who meet the stipulated eligibility criteria.
There is no any screening or merit listing.
For joining AMIE course, one should apply for membership in the specified application
Diploma holders are usually called Senior Technician Members, and +2 (or equivalent)
holders are called Technician members
The duration of AMIE is flexible. A period of 6 years each is allowed for completing Section A and B.Since this is the maximum duration, a student who systematically studies the course can successfully finish the course in minimum time.Students who study the course under any of our coaching programme can complete the course in 4 semesters (Diploma holders) or 6 semesters (+2 holders)
