AMIE Study Tips / Material Science and Engineering - Info needed about books
« on: September 18, 2010, 07:38:12 AM »
Hi All,

How good is the book

1. "Materials science and Engineering" L.H. VanVlack, Pearson Education, This is the textbook prescribed for IEI. Is it worth reading from the book?

2. "Materials Science and Engineering" by Callister, WIley inc.
3. "Materials Science and Engineering" by IP Singh and Subhash Chander, Jain Brother

Which of the above three is best? Which one covers the syllabus completely. Given that i have 2.5 months from now (till winter 2010 exams), can i complete the materials science and engineering syllabus, studying 2 hours a day?

Thanks
Taarkshya

Hi All,

After going through several posts in this forum and through the IEI website, it still is not clear on what is meant by either Re-registration or Extension.

The scenario is this

Lets say i have finished my 6 Year period for Section-A but failed to clear all my exams by the end of that perdio, in that case would i be eligible for -

1. Registration for Sec-A exams, all over again, previous exams forfeited?

2. or Am i eligible for a 2 year extension?

The strange thing is that IEI website doesn't talk about this, it says "CANDIDATES IN TRANSITORY BLOCK SWITCHED OVER FROM OLD TO NEW SCHEME". In my case, this doesn't apply. As i joined AMIE in 2007 as a technician, so i don't belong to the transitory block (By the way my Sec-A expiry period is in 2013). As i am already following the revised scheme of Sec-A, would i be eligible for 2 Year extension, if YES, then where are the Forms, or would IEI send the forms (for 2 year extension) automatically to me just in the last year or so? Also kindly let me know where i can download the forms and where this 2 Year extension for "GENERAL CANDIDATES IN THE NEW SCHEME" is mentioned in the IEI website.

Thanks
Taarkshya

Hi All,

For the Engineering Drawing exam, are we supposed to carry the mini-drafter, drawing board and drawing paper to the examination hall or would i be provided something at the examination centre itself?

If we are not provided with any thing, are we supposed to draw / draft the diagrams on the examination paper itself (which has ruled lines in it) ?

Also kindly provide some tips for studying this Engineering Drawing subject.

Thanks
Tarkshya

Hi All,

Could anyone tell me how much time would be needed to study for Design and manufacturing, to complete the syllabus, along with studying material science and engineering. Daily i can spare 1 hour for both and During sundays and saturdays, i can spend 12 hours. Is it possible to complete the syllabus of these two subjects, as i have to appear for these two subjects in summer 2010 exam.

Thanks
Taarkshya

Hi All,

Could any one tell me the name of subjects that can be finished in 5 months, given the fact that i can spare just 2 hours everyday for its study. Can material science and engineering be done in this fashion? What about Engineering Drawing. Also let me know any other subjects that can be done in this fashion, i am currently doing Sec-A (Non-Diploma), also i am working full time, so all i can spend is two hours everyday during weekdays and 5 hours on sundays and saturdays each.

Thanks
Taarkshya

Hi All,

Can anyone of you who have had experience in appearing for Engineering Mathematics Exam, guide me in preparing for it? I am still quite confused as this is for the first time i am appearing for any of the AMIE exams. I have applied to attempt three subjects viz. Computing and informatics, Society and Environment and Engineering Mathematics.

After reviewing (and after submitting my exam form) i found the syllabus of Engineering Mathematics to be too overwhelming so as to be completed within a period of 3 months. (3 months from Feb - now only 2 left).

I just want to know whether it's still possible for me to finish the syllabus of Mathematics, given the fact that i am doing a full time job and i can spare just 2 hours everyday for maths (because of my job schedule) and during sunday's & saturday's i can spare at most 6 hours each day, and only 2 more months are left ?

Can anyone advice me on this on whether is it possible to cover the syllabus or not? or shall i postpone Maths for Winter-2009 exams? Uptil now i have covered only the basics of mathematics like functions and graphs, continuity etc.

Thanks

Hi,

Can anyone post the old/previous question papers for Mathematics, Section-A (Non-Diploma)

Thanks

Hi All,

What's the minimum time required to prepare for the exam "Society and Environment", ? can it be done in 2-3 months? Which book do you suggest? I have a book titled "Society and Environment" by Mukhi, (Satya Prakashan, Delhi), is it a good one?

Thanks

General Topics and Discussions / Appearing from alternate Exam Centre
« on: February 24, 2009, 07:54:36 PM »
Hi,

1. When i registered for AMIE Sec -A (non diploma stream) as a Technician member, i did it from delhi. Also the address in my I-Card is my delhi home address. Currently i am in bangalore, would it possible for me to appear for summer-2009 examinations from Bangalore???

2. There is an option for specifying the examination centre code in the Examination form, if i specify the code for bangalore (code 560), would my form be accepted by the institution of engineers?, would i be allowed to give my exams from bangalore (even though the address in my I-Card is a delhi address)?

OR

Am i supposed to send them an address proof along with an application, enclosed with the examination form, requesting them to allow me to appear from bangalore centre?

Please respond.

Thanks
