Hello Guys...

I am in big confusion about the book selection for the following subjects...

I have purchased following books.

Mechanics of Solids: By Ramamurthum

Mechanics of Fluids: RK Rajput

Looking at the contents I am not sure If I did the right Selection.. Is there anyone who used these books and guide me about it?

Seeking comments...

Thank you,
Vishal

Dear Vishal,
The selection of book is directly link to ur performance in exam.Any one book, from which you can understand better is the best book for you.Almost all books who cover IE syllabus, are same in contains. The difference is only way of expression.
If you are looking for a books which can teach from basic
for fluid mechanics
Fluid Mechanics and Hydraulics by Jagdish Lal
Fluid Mechanics by AK Jain
(very simple language and you can learn yourself by reading this book)
Fluid Mechanics by KL kumar
It is very good book, only if you know the basic.
last one is Old question paper

For Solid Mechanics>>>
Strength of Material
The Best Book I went through is by R S Khurmi but it should be very old version.New version very short type.
Old question paper

By reading above book I scored B grade in both subjects and little command over the basic.
Thanks,
regards,
upendra

Dear Charulata,
There is number of books on thermal
The best one which I like most is by Mathur and Mehta>> very very simple language and lot of things that is beyond syllabus and Thick book.
The thing is you have to select topic that you need to study. This is very simple and you can clear all the fundamentals for thermal.
This book is useful for Group-A fundametals, theory understand and numerical as well.
For Group-B>>
Heat and Mass transfer by D.S Kumar,I liked most.
For success in thermal,
1.Clear the fundamentls and basic first whatever the time take please spend otherwise mess-up and things will not clear.
2.Practice 4 or 5 times by writing the key points and solving numerical.
Without doing thing you can not expect to clear this papers.I have seen number of students even not getting 35 marks from 4 or 5 attemts.
The reason is only and only missing practice. What I obserbed even single mistake in exam, during solving numerical >>the marks will be zero. There is no marks for the process. This fact I am telling based on what I calculate marks after writting the exam and actual markssheet accuracy lavel is more than 90%.
3.solve at least all numerical of old papers not 1 times more than 2 or 3 times.

I scored 50marks in 1st attempt>>And as per my self evaluation i was made 53 marks 100% correct>>>see the evaluation accuracy level by IE

For design of machine elements>>>
Do not look for any other book, the Book by RS kurmi(machine design) it is enough and best one.
solved old paper+practice alteast 3 times minium>>>Otherwise whole thing will mixed and end result fail.

I scored 74 marks in 1st attempt>>and as per my self evaluation I was made correct 70 marks 100% sure>>See the evaluation accuracy level by IE

Both above paper is the back boon of machanical engg, so you will have to deovte time for clear the basic concept>>otherwise no meaning.
Thanks,
regards,
upendra

As per your suggestion, i think i should write these exams in the last attempt, atleast I can clear with D grade.
Can you suggest me the subjects in order which is easy & difficult out of 5.
1. Mechanics of Solid
2. Mechanics of Fluid
3. Thermal Science
4. Design of M/c elements

Dear Charu,
Most easiest to difficult in following order
1. Mechanics of Solid>>most easiest
2. Design of M/c elements
3. Mechanics of Fluid
4. Thermal Science(Vast syllabus>>>see the question paper of summer 2011)
5. Internal combustion Engines.(I have no idea)
The order is of my experience>>It may be different order for different students.
So ask yourself and decide. That one will be best for you.Above is only my experince.
Thanks,
regards,
upendra
