Hi Chenchu89,
If you have enrolled before february 29, then you are eligible for summer 2012 exams.
normal processing time is 3 months, some times you will get a chance. anyway don't wait for IEI study materials, it will come late only, better purchase books from outside & start your preparation.

Can I still apply for new AMIE membership and still be able to attend the Summer 2012 exams?

Kindly confirm that I have to apply using the below instructions I received via email many months before IEI Kolkatta:

"You are requested to send us a DD of Rs 375/- in favour of “The Institution of Engineers (India), payable at kolkata, along with a covering letter marking your requisition, addressed to The Director (Finance), The Institution of Engineers (India), 8 Gokhale Road, Kolkata – 700 020."

The above is still the same, correct?

Also, could you please tell me what is the difference between applying for membership at an "Indian address" and "Overseas address" ? Are there any differences in studies/exam fees/course materials or any differences at all? Please do let me know about this. Which one is better, since I am overseas?

Hi guestnaveed,
Application form cost Rs.375/- you can send DD to IEI kolkatta or you can purchase from local IEI centre.
Processing time takes 3-4 months, if you apply now you will be able to attend only winter 2012 exams.
applying with india address & overseas address is major difference in FEES & communication address.

option-1:
if you have anybody in india then the process in simple
1. first tell them to collect application form & send it you.
2. you fill the application & attach the respective documents & send it back to india.
3. let them take signature in ID card from FIE member from local IEI centre. (they have to show your original certificates for proof)
4. send it back to IEI kolkatta with respective Demand Draft (fees in indian rupees).

option 2:
you can get the application from local overseas centre & pay overseas fees. all the correspondence will come to your overseas address.

i have registered from india address & giving exams in overseas.

choose your own option according to your convenience.

Thank you charulatha. That was very helpful reply. I was very much confused about the procedure of overseas & indian address registration. Your reply cleared it up for me.

Just one question about option 1, you mentioned -

Which ID card do you mean? My government Identification card in India? Or do you mean signature/verifcation of FIE member on the copies of my educational & other documents?

And about this

4.send it back to IEI kolkatta with respective Demand Draft (fees in indian rupees)

- this has to be demand draft taken from India also or can it be send from overseas?

Hi guestnaveed,
1. Along with the application form blank ID card will be there, you have to fill the id card with photo & get attested by FIE member & send back to kolkatta. once you get the membership, IEI will issue a ID card stating your membership no. which is valid for 6 years. ID card is must for writing exams.
2. If you are applying from india, better to take a Demand draft from india only. Nowhere show that you are a NRI. When you are applying for examination(winter 2012), you can fill the overseas exam centre code & pay overseas exam fee.

The reason that i have mentioned for original certificates are somebody is going to get signed in behalf of you, how IEI person will believe that you are the original candidate.

And do you have any recommendations on the books to purchase from outside, since the study materials from IEI will be late. Which publisher books to buy, I have read on this forum about Jain publisher books but are there any other publishers/books recommended?

Jain publishers will match exactly the AMIE syllabus. for other books recommendation you can go through in the forum.
i have cleared my Section A with IEI study material & solved Question Bank (jain brothers). So No idea about other books.
