Engineers whose qualification is BE / BTech or equivalent, recognized by the Statutory Authority or Government of India and who are having 7 years or more experience, out of which professional experience of 2 years in a responsible position of a significant engineering activity, having membership of a recognized professional society and having maintained continuous professional development at satisfactory level, can submit application in the prescribed format to the Secretary, Board for Registration, The Institution of Engineers (India), 8 Gokhale Road, Kolkata 700 020.
The Guidelines and the Application Form can be freely downloaded.
The assessment of application including the Assessment Examination is conducted by the national committees of different engineering disciplines formed by professional institutions in the country under supervision and directions of the independent 'Board for Certification'.
It is mandatory for Professional Engineers to abide by the Code of Ethics as formulated.

Chartered Engineer
Eligibility Criteria for Chartered Engineer
Any Life Corporate Member of the Institution of Engineers (India) can designate himself as a Chartered Engineer (C Eng).
A special certificate specifying as Chartered Engineer ( C Eng ) can be obtained on payment of Rs. 2000/- only (for India/Nepal) and US$ 200 only (for other countries).
This is applicable only to the Members who have paid Composite Subscriptions / Life Compounding fees in full. Applications on a plain paper, specifying professional attainments along with a demand draft of Rs. 2000/- only or US$ 200 only, as the case may be, drawn in favour of 'The Institution of Engineers (India)' and payable at Kolkata, mentioning the membership number on the reverse of the draft
