A story –

In a quiz and debate competition principal distributed vegetables as prizes to all. After receiving a cabbage , initially Puja was happy but in few minutes bulky cabbage was becoming burden to her. Every body was thinking why these vegetables are given to us and what will we do with these?

Probably principal read their faces and asked “Did you like the prizes?” no body replied. He then said “Go to your home and ask your parents to cook whatever you have earned today. It means you are contributing something by your hard work to family meal. Think about this and I know you will definitely enjoy the food.” First time in the life these children contributed to their family and that made the day memorable for whole life.


This story is opening few points of discussion –

1. Do we really realize the value of incentive we get from learning?

2. Should we always link learning with incentives?

3. Power (learning) comes with sense of responsibility?

4. Does this sense of responsibility or incentive lead us more towards learning (which one of these or both)?
